Terms and Conditions
We strive to make musical learning enjoyable and rewarding for all our students. The following conditions are based on the standard recommendations of the Music Teachers' Association of Queensland Inc. Enrolment in music tuition presumes acceptance of these terms.
1. Fees and Enrolment
-
Fees are payable per term, strictly in advance.
-
A student’s place cannot be confirmed until full payment of fees is received.
-
Tuition is organised by term (usually 8–9 consecutive weeks) or by separate arrangement for individual tuition.
2. Missed Lessons & Refunds
-
When a student does not attend an individual lesson, with or without notice, this causes direct financial loss to the teacher. In accordance with MTAQ guidelines, missed lessons are charged in full unless, in the teacher’s judgement, circumstances warrant a special concession.
-
Lessons cancelled by the teacher will be made up, rescheduled, or carried forward.
-
Refunds are not issued except where the teacher cancels a lesson or discontinues tuition.
3. Termination or Discontinuation of Lessons
-
If a student is not continuing into a new term, families are asked to give as much notice as possible to assist with scheduling and planning.
-
Where the learning environment, teacher’s wellbeing, or professional integrity is compromised due to the behaviour of a student or parent/guardian, the teacher reserves the right to terminate lessons immediately.
-
In such cases, remaining prepaid lessons for that term will be refunded.
4. Expectations of Students and Parents
-
Respectful communication and behaviour are expected at all times from both students and parents/guardians.
-
Disrespectful, aggressive, undermining, or inappropriate behaviour towards the teacher will not be tolerated and may lead to immediate termination of lessons.
-
Participation in the piano program requires a commitment to regular practice, as recommended by the teacher. The studio reserves the right to discontinue enrolment where a student consistently fails to practise between lessons.
5. Lesson Delivery: In-Person and Online
-
At times when the teacher is unavailable for face-to-face teaching (e.g., illness, travel, or unforeseen circumstances), lessons may be delivered online.
-
Online lessons form part of the standard tuition schedule and are charged at the usual rate.
6. Photography and Video
-
Photography and video recording of lessons is strictly prohibited without prior written approval from the teacher.
7. Instrument Requirements
-
A student will not be accepted for piano tuition unless a suitable, well-maintained instrument is available for home practice.
8. Parent/Student Communication
-
Any questions or concerns relating to the student’s progress, practice, or lesson content should be addressed during the scheduled lesson time, not at the end of the lesson when the next student has arrived.
-
For matters requiring further discussion or clarification, email is the preferred method of communication, allowing adequate time for the teacher to respond thoughtfully and without disrupting other students’ lessons.
9. Illness Policy
-
Students who are unwell must not attend in-person lessons.
-
Where possible, the lesson may be taken online at the scheduled time.
-
Students who are too unwell to participate meaningfully will forfeit the lesson unless the teacher offers a concession at their discretion.
10. Books, Materials, and Resources
-
Parents/students are responsible for purchasing music books, materials, or resources recommended by the teacher.
-
These are essential for maintaining continuity in learning and progress.
11. Performance, Exams & External Events
-
Participation in studio concerts, competitions, and examinations is encouraged but not compulsory.
-
Recommendations for exam entry, repertoire, or performance events are made at the teacher’s professional discretion, based on the student’s readiness and wellbeing.
12. Late Arrival Policy
-
Lessons begin and end at the scheduled time.
-
If a student arrives late, the lesson will still finish at the regular time, and no refund or extension will be provided.
13. Blue Card & Child Safety Requirements
-
All teachers hold current Blue Suitability Cards in accordance with Queensland child safety legislation.
-
The studio maintains a Risk Management Strategy supporting the safety and wellbeing of all children and young people in our programs. These documents may be sighted upon request.
