James Melville Clark Scholarships
Paula Melville-Clark presented the James Melville Clark Scholarships through the City of Toowoomba Eisteddfod from 2009 - 2017 in honour of her father who passed away in 1995 at the age of 84.
From 2018, the James Melville Clark Memorial Piano Scholarships will be presented annually to Paula's personal piano students who demonstrate the same love of music and desire to play as the young James Melville Clark.
Despite James’ interest in music and his desire to play the piano, only his two sisters were allowed to have piano lessons. James stole every opportunity to listen through the door during these lessons and eventually, without any formal training, and without being able to read music, he became an accomplished pianist able to play anything by ear.
His love of music followed him throughout his life. When his 6 year old daughter, Paula, showed an interest in learning, he did everything in his power to assist, encourage and share his love of music with her.
